Our group is excited and nervous as we start work on our final project. While we’ve been exchanging ideas all year, we are struggling to pick one, but we have a couple of directions we might want to go. In terms of genre, the three of us are leaning towards science fiction or fantasy.
We were thinking of going a darker route, pulling cinematographic inspiration from films like Alien, and 10 Cloverfield Lane. If we were to go that route, our plot would try to be rooted in reality, using what we’ve researched and learned in our astronomy class to supplement our story. For example, one idea Ash had was to base the plot around someone listening for aliens using radio-waves. This would be based on something like the Allen Telescope Array, a field of radio telescopes in California that are constantly looking for signals from extraterrestrial beings.
The other genre we were considering was fantasy, but this too would be rooted in darker tones. We were also thinking of pairing the fantasy genre with the action genre, using elements found in both. Kristen’s idea is still in its early stages, but it involves witches with action film tropes added in.
